지난 7월 말 발생해 한 달여 동안이나 브라질 아마존 밀림 화재가 계속되고 있는 가운데 브라질 정부는 아마존 열대우림 산불이 조금씩 줄고 있으며 전체적인 상황이 서서히 진정세를 보인다고 밝혔다.
산불 진화 작전을 지휘하는 군 관계자들은 기자회견을 통해 “최근 수일간 발화 지점이 눈에 띄게 줄어든 것을 확인했다”면서도 아마존 산불이 언제쯤 완전 진화 단계에 들어설지는 예측하기 어렵다고 덧붙였다.
